Farson’s agents have infiltrated Gilead, and some of their number even advise Steven, Dinh of Gilead. At a feast celebrating Roland, Alain and Cuthbert’s newfound status as Gunslingers, they move. Gabrielle, Roland’s own mother, steals the magical orb known as Maerlyn’s Grapefruit from his father’s safe, and has been ordered to kill her husband when they are alone together. Roland has had visions that foreshadow his ka, and the quest he will undertake to reach the Dark Tower. But before his feet begin on that path, a dark fate awaits him.
